vitamin d deficiency
Hi all
I have now been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency. I have been reading that it is linked to Coeliac Disease. I am assuming my LC would also cause it? I eat plenty of the foods that contain it and spend as much time outside as I can at this time of year so my GP is prescribing me vitamin d/calcium to treat it. Is this safe for MC sufferers?
many thanks
Becky

Hi Becky it should be safe, and VD deficiency goes hand in hand with these diseases. You should be trying to get about an average of 5000 to 7000 IU per day of VD to deal with a deficiency for a few months and then have the levels checked again to see if you can slightly reduce the dosage.
The supplements should be safe as long as they do not contain a filler you are sensitiv to. I was also prescribed a supplement due to a deficiency, but when I went to the chemist to pick it up I found out is had a soybean oil filler in the gel cap and I am vey reactive to soy. I was able to find a safer version at the local grocery store that I have been taking for a while now.
Do you know what you VD levels were?

Hi Becky,
Yes, inflammatory bowel diseases such as LC tend to cause a vitamin D deficiency, and conversely, a vitamin D deficiency can lead to developing an inflammatory bowel disease. It's important to keep your vitamin D level well up in the "normal" range, because vitamin D is very important to immune system health.
One reason why so many people are developing so many autoimmune diseases these days is because people don't get as much sun exposure as their grandparents did, and when they do get out in the sun, they use a sunscreen product, so there's a widespread vitamin D deficiency in the general population in most developed countries.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thank you all.
I have been given Adcal-D3 which is calcium and vitamin D combined. 1500mg/400iu twice a day. It does contain soya oil. I will have to see how it goes.
I practically live outdoors as long as the weather is dry, as I always have a bit of a craving for natural light.
I have fallen off the gluten free wagon a couple of times this week so it might be hard to tell if I do react
Thank you for your help
