Is there a famous celebrity who has MC?

Post by desertrat »

I know there are a few celebs that have Celiac, but is there anyone who has been diagnosed with MC? Not that I wish anyone with this, but if a high caliber celebrity, such as Brad Pitt or Jennifer Lopez was diagnosed with it, I wonder how much more mainstream this disease would become known to the general population. I guess it is a matter of time, really, before a famous person comes forth with their diagnosis, but it sure would be nice to have MC become more public with the possibility/hope of it generating more awareness and concern.

Much has changed for the couple since the 2008 games. They married in 2010, Jenn posted a banner year in 2011, and she also discovered the source of crippling muscle cramps: an allergy to gluten.

Jenn says she is now able to "eat the right things ... and not have the side effects and the fatigue."

Miley Cirus just announced she is "allergic" to gluten and lactose. It wouldn't surprise me if celebs use the term allergy to avoid less attractive terms like "colitis/"

I suspect that Zizzle is right - I was going to comment that due to the possible negative fallout potential, a lot of celebs are not likely to admit that they spend most of their day in the bathroom, with uncontrollable diarrhea. That wouldn't do much to further their public image.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

If there are 311,591,917 people in the U.S. and 23 in 100,000 have MC, then there's only 71,666 of us. There may not be a celebrity with MC.

Novak Djokovic

Post by Sheila »

The number one tennis player in the world, Novak Djokovic, is following a gluten free diet. My youngest son is a tennis professional and told me about him. BTW, my son has had symptoms of food allergies since he was an infant. Now, at age 41, because a person other than his mother has advised against eating gluten, Chris is having the celiac test and, I hope, the colonoscopy with biopsy. I don't know what caused Djokovic to stop eating gluten but when he stopped a year or so ago his tennis playing improved greatly and he moved up to number 1 in the world.

I believe I've discovered what caused my flare a few weeks ago. My GI doc wanted me to take Caltrate D for my bones since I am also taking Entocort. The list of ingredients includes maltodextrin, Blue #2 dye, Red #40 dye, Yelllow # 6 and a few others. Why in God's name do vitamins have to be pretty colors? I also started taking one of my late husbands vitamins when mine ran out and it contained soy. Those two things and the celebrex probably caused the flare. I'm fine now minus those 3 things. I'm going to slowly add bananas back into my diet and hope for no D.

Interesting topic.

I think Kelsey Grammer and his ex-wife were spokepeople for IBS at one time - and we KNOW that IBS is often undiagnosed MC. Also, Chelsea Clinton had a GF wedding cake.

Sheila,

I'm so glad that you were able to determine what was causing your flare. Good detective work!

I wonder why any pills need food dye. It's not like the color makes them more appetizing.
