The study Dr. Briffa references is here, I think. It was published online Monday: http://www.centromedicoathenas.com.br/p ... lidade.pdf but I didn't see it in the Archived Internal Medicine issue Dr. Briffa notes.I was interested to read a recent study which looked women with subclinical hypothyroidism over time. Some of these women were treated with thyroxine, while some were not [1]. The researchers then looked at the women’s risk for ‘ischaemic heart disease’ events (fatal and non-fatal heart attacks). In women aged 40-70, thyroid treatment was associated with a 39 per cent reduced risk of heart events. In women over the age of 70, treatment was not associated with a reduction in risk.

Thanks Marliss. I'll take a look at this. I am going to have to do some more research into the thyroid issue since I know my antibodies are high. I might consult a local naturopath to see if she can order the appropriate blood tests. In Vermont naturopaths can prescribe medication too, so that is probably the route I will explore once I get the intestinal stuff sorted out more. It can be complicated and confusing being one's own doctor, but I think I am doing a better job, with the help of this forum, than any doctor has ever done for me. In fact I gave up on doctors a while back, at least for my gastrointestinal issues.
Thanks for thinking of me.
