Hubert the Redback

Hi All

Feeling a little better this afternoon. Not perfect but better. Will have to wait & see what tonight brings. If I can get some sleep instead of sitting on the loo all night I can cope,just.

And yes a thunderbox is what you call an outhouse.

The old earth closet that you had to use before they brought in septic & sewerage.

Nasty things & they did harbour redback spiders. They are one of my phobias too. Spiders & snakes. Although theree was a huntsman used to frequent my bathroom & granddaughter Emily didn't want to go in there so I told her it was my pet spider 'Hubert' so she happily went in and ever after she asks how 'Hubert' is going. I rather think it is Hubert's grandson who is in there now but as long as he keeps his distance it's Ok.

And Barb, how is the car going,or isn't it going at all still?

Love the pictures. We had a "thunderbox" when I was young. I remember it well.....along with the "old" Sears & Roebuck catalog. (Toilet paper for you youngsters)

Hmm...my gram always taught me to look out for porcupines! Out hiking with her, the privies the shelters for whatever reason attracked the little critters...they used to chew on the seats so whether they were there or not you had to watch out so as not to get any splinters!

Glad you are feeling better.

I looked up "huntsman" on google and it is darn scary. You were brave to have such a "pet."

Hazel he wasn't really my pet, just had to encourage Emily to go into the bathroom when she really had to go. They are really quite shy & run away if you go near them. They also keep other insect in control so it is not so bad having them around. Just don't like the idea of them crawling over me while I sleep

Katy a porcupine on the seat would be a bit of a shock.

Shirley we used to use old phone books. Had to crumple & rub the pieces before they were soft enough to put you know where. Don't think I could suffer that sort of thing these days.

Redbacks bites are quite poisonous & could kill a child or make an adult pretty ill.
