Sore throat
I was diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis in November 2019. Ever since I started experiencing stomach issues before the diagnosis, in the summer, I have had a sore throat on and off. Not very painful, but a sore throat nonetheless. I asked the GI specialist if a sore throat is a common symptom of the disease, but she said it isn't and that I needed to get it checked out by my PCP. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this symptom?
Hi,
Welcome to the group. Your GI Specialist is technically correct. MC can affect any part of the digestive system, from mouth to anus. Many gastroenterologists do not acknowledge that fact (or they're unaware of it), because they haven't kept up with the published research concerning MC. A chronic sore throat is a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease GERD. GERD is closely associated with MC. It's quite common because of the poor digestion caused by the disease. So your sore throat might have been caused by something else, but it probably was associated with the development of MC. In your GI specialist's defense — it's true that a sore throat isn't a symptom of MC. It's a symptom of a satellite issue that's often associated with MC.
Just because this might have been the cause of the sore throat doesn't mean that it was. This is just one of several possibilities that your doctor could rule out with the appropriate tests.
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Welcome!
I also had a frequently sore throat. I had reflux but also had a lot of post nasal drip. While I have seasonal allergies I also felt that the mucus membranes of my sinuses were just as aggravated as my upper GI tract. What helped was irrigating my sinuses and gargling with salt water. Also chamomile tea will calm the soreness.
Best wishes,
Carol
