Need advice please on diet and what to do.

Post by Tsue »

First I am thankful that my account was activated again. In October of 2021 my biopsy showed I had lymphocytic colitis and I was prescribed Budesonide which was like a miracle drug to me. For the last year I couldn't even be off it more than a week before I started having massive diarrhea. I now can't be on it anymore because I have gotten very blurry vision and the beginnings of glaucoma, my eye specialist even said that it has caused this. I had no idea about that because they just kept giving it to me.
I have been trying the pepto bismol tablets with immodium but neither are doing much at all.
I also started taking psyllium husk capsules but I made the mistake of taking the suggested amount on the bottle and ended up vomiting the next day.
I thought about doing the Low FODMAP diet or the anti inflammation diet but I am not sure if that is the best course. I have had nausea in the past but the last three weeks have been really bad. The diarrhea is also bad. I had to leave my grandson's birthday party even because I did not even know I had soiled my pants so not only was that embarrassing but so depressing. I do wear pads but on that day I wasn't having any problems. So basically I am stuck at home and very sad. Which diet should I do or go back to stage on on here? I am lactose intolerant so I have quit that for four weeks and now I am going to go gluten free

Sorry this has become your MC journey

I would suggest you do Stage 1 type eating plan with safe ingredients

are you taking Vit D3 and magnesium?

given how inflamed you currently are it will take a couple of months for inflammation to calm and symptoms to settle.
be patient.

Thank you so much for answering my question. The stage one diet is pinned at the top I believe. Yes I am taking both but I did just start the magnesium at night. I was taking so many supplements for my eyes but I have quit them for now as I think they were giving me nausea. I have stopped gluten but only for a couple of days and I haven't had any diarrhea today. Felt great to get out of the house for a little bit. Yes patience is the key, just hard but I do want to feel better so I have my cart filled with food that I can eat.

It might be worth trying the low‑FODMAP diet for a few weeks and keeping a simple food diary to spot what’s triggering you. Stick with easy‑on‑the‑tummy stuff (like rice, bananas, cooked carrots, lean chicken or fish) in small meals throughout the day.

Can you please provide a link to the Stage 1 eating plan? I see a lot of references to it on the forum, but I haven't been able to locate the post with the diet. Thanks.

There is no one-size-fits-all diet. We all have to design our own diet, because were all different, but here's a link to the discussion about the elimination diet that you asked about:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
