bacon
Hi
I've been recently diagnosed with LC - have just started budesonide yesterday. For a few weeks I have been gluten, sugar, soy, dairy free. I haven't yet stopped eggs but think I perhaps should? I am not based in USA so cannot get the enterolab tests done, so wish I could - so am going to figure things out myself which clearly won't happen while I am on the budesonide. But I am already trying to eat carefully - pork, lamb, fish - and am going to try some game meat - that is available to me. And limited veg, plus banana (is banana daily ok?) I am currently eating chicken but think I should stop as it seems to be problematic to many - or is that a wrong assumption? My main question is regarding bacon - the bacon in my freezer has phosphates, sugar, sodium erythorbate and curing agents. I'm not sure that other bacons won't contain these? I am thus inclined to think bacon should not be on the menu? However I see lots of people do seem to eat bacon.
Very much appreciate the information on this group. My Gastro specialist said eat anything - but not spicy.......
Regards
Ingrid

Re: bacon
Hello Ingrid,
Welcome to the group. EnteroLab has moved to Greece, but they've always accepted sample shipments from most countries in the world, so I'm assuming that they still do.
It's probably safer to avoid cured bacon until after you've been in remission for at least a week or more, but if you can tolerate pork, uncured bacon is available in many places. Since it's uncured, it can't be stored in a refrigerator very long, but you should be able to store it in a freezer.
If you're concerned about chicken, none of us react to turkey, so it's much safer, but try to find a brand that doesn't contain rosemary extract, because rosemary is extracted by using soy oil. Bananas are almost always safe for us, except for those of us who have histamine intolerance issues.
I hope this helps.
Tex

Re: bacon
Hi Tex
Just for your interest I emailed Enterolab and they responded and said they are not accepting international orders at this time (I am in South Africa), but they should be set up for this in 3/4 months time. Thought you might like to know.,I posted a question about Loprazolam and whether that was a possible issue with mc/budesonide, but did not get a reply. I am on day 8 of bud and no reaction yet so trying to rule out issues. Stopped my hrt.
Thanks for your help, so much appreciated

Re: bacon
Thanks for the update on EnteroLab. Diarrhea is a labeled possible side effect of Loprazolam for some people, but whether or not it's causing your WD is anybody's guess.
Regarding insomnia, MC depletes magnesium and vitamin D. Magnesium deficiency is associated with virtually every disease in the world, and it's especially well-known for causing insomnia, anxiety, depression, muscle cramps and other problems. And since it's necessary for the coactivation of vitamin D and many chemical processes that occur In the body hundreds of times every day, including methylation processes, it eventually leads to many vitamin deficiencies, especially the active forms of vitamins that are necessary in order to be used by the body (especially the B vitamins).
Most members here use magnesium glyccinate. A tablet taken at bedtime helps us to sleep. If oral magnesium supplements cause diarrhea, MC patients apply magnesium oil or lotion to their skin, and/or use foot soaks in which Epson salts have been dissolved, or they soak for 15 or 20 minutes a couple of times each week in bath water in which a cup of Epson salts have been dissolved.
I hope this helps,
