Finding a big goiter is how I learned I had thyroid disease, but it was too late to save mine. I didn't find out about the M.C. until a couple of months after that.
Anyway, I went to the endochrinologist for a second opinion, and he, too, thought I should rid myself of it. The other side turned out to be pretty well "dead" as well.
If I'd had the "routine colonoscopy" I kept putting off (despite all the D), and subsequently learned about the gluten issue I had, then perhaps I could've reversed the thyroid disease with diet.
At any rate, that's water under the bridge. You are fortunate to have discovered yours early enough to have a chance of reducing it with medication. That's what I'd hoped to do when I got the second opinion from the non-surgeon. His opinion was pretty convincing since he'd had the total thyroidectomy himself for autoimmune disease of the thyroid. The other reason was that he'd had so much radiation for acne as a teen.
Did you have the nuclear studies in addition to your biopsy? Everything I had was inconclusive and a bit weird, actually, even the biospy couldn't rule out cancer, sooo..
Are you already taking the medication, and if so, which one/ones?

Next week I go to the ENDO----the ENT. sent me for the ultra-sound which showed all the nodules on both sides??? and ENT. took the biopsies--
Next week is the ENDO. and she will do the blood work and from there will be determined what meds. I am to go on.---or whatever!!
I thought the ENT. would do the blood-drawing but he said NO--
And sitting back thinking---I remember,when I was in high school.my mom had an operation----removal of the GOITER!!!! I didnt even know what that meant???
Of course back then---who asked Q."s---*everything OK?* was the only thing I asked--
And thats about all I can remember of her surgery~~~~
Now I am scurrying thru the NET---good idea/bad idea
cus there are so many things I DO NOT understand---but have printed many paragraphs so as I have something to go on when I see the ENDO.
LUCE--for instance---U said NUCLEAR STUDIES???? LIKE WHAT---CAN U GIVE ME a BRIEF summary of all this??

At this point in time, most of that is a big blur. I just remember having the tests, and having to swallow the little radioactive pill, etc. There were two tests done the same day at the same place in that department.
ENT did my biopsies.
Wouldn't be too concerned about it if your docs think it can be suppressed with meds. That's what I'd been hoping for, but all the tests came back weird, so they couldn't take a chance, and my biopsy area kept filling up with bloody fluid which could've meant something more serious. I was just a very strange case, as so many of my illnesses have been. If you didn't have any strange signs, and they biopsied you and everything was ok, then sounds like no surgery for Barbs.
Only reason for being glad I had the thyroidectomy is because a series of events starting with the surgery eventually lead to the M.C. diagnosis, which lead me to find the group, and you know the rest.
You might want to get the endo to explain to you what are the indications for the tests done on the thyroid in the nuclear department, if it concerns you. ENT would probably tell you as well, but you are going to the Endo next, sooo...
