must be DEER Wandering season~~~~~~~~~~~~

Post by barbaranoela »

Earlier today---about 2PM----a mommy deer and her doe were wandering the neighborhood--
They sauntered cross our lawn(lou ran for the camera but couldnt find it)--so he quietly opened the door and stood watching them---
They went next door and then cross the street to friends lawn---then paced down the street

We have had this happen a few times to us----what a sight--

U see we are not to far from what is South Mountain Road---and tis a winding road thru this mountainous area--ritzy homes set further back--and I guess they wander from that area---

Are they looking for  area for the upcoming winter??

Anyway what do they do when the freezing cold and snows fall??

Wandering, Yes............also Running!

It's also deer hunting season as well in lots of places. It's sad, but I grew up in Southern Indiana and it was actually necessary. So many folks were killed every year from hitting them. Poor little guys!

Hi Barb, When the snow flies and it is cold they find shelter and usually stay high if there are high places. But when The food gets scare they will come into town and eat bushes and plants. One winter In Utah the food got scarce and all the deer were eating everyones bushes and plants in their front yards. The farmers decided to put out food for them. That was a terrible winter. We had deer in the drive thru's and on porches. Even saw one go thru the drive thru at the bank ahead of me. Plus we humans encroch on the wildlife territory all the time. But they may have been grazing and searching being so close to open territory as you are.
We have deer sign and track everywhere here.
Love Oma

Yup, they keep on awandering all winter looking for food. They paw at the snow to uncover stuff to nibble on when it's not too deep. If the snow gets too deep they change their diet and eat twigs, bark, shrubs, anything. On years like that (we had one last winter) come spring they are ready for anything and nip away at the garden if we aren't careful to put out our protective measures (fences for the veggie garden, Irish Spring soap in the flower gardens).

We see deer all year long. Been seeing a 4 point and an 8 point up here on the hill this fall, but not in a few weeks.
