Well I think it's DH year for hitting critters. We hit another deer yesterday Morning. We don' think there's any damage to the truck. We just bumped her but enough to break her back. Mike and I didn't either one have a pistol in the truck to put her out of her misery.....So Mike decides to cut her throat. All I could invisin is the deer kicking him and breaking something of his. Sure enough she kicked him but did no damage. Mike was upset about hitting the deer. He said He doesn't like it when that happens. He gets visably upset He's a hunter but we only hunt what we eat.
AND>>>>>Tonight there was a skunk up around the house. When he saw Mike, he charged him, so mike whipped out the pistol and stopped his charge. Only thing bad is the skunk ran under the small barn/shed we have out back. He was fatally wounded but had enough left to get under the barn. So Now DH has too take off part of the wall and go in and find him. And No he didn't get sprayed, Thank God, and I did. So right now My Barn/Shed smell real pretty. Ahh Country Life!!

Y'all have really had a bad streak with deer on the roads, this fall.
I've noticed that there seems to be a higher than normal number of skunks, this year, around here. I hate it when they insist on just making themselves at home, where they shouldn't. I guess they think they smell good, and people appreciate having them around their house and buildings. LOL.

Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I almost had the same thing happen to me last night. Traffic (if you can call it that in Vermont) got bunched together on the highway going home last night between an on ramp without enough acceleration lane to merge comfortably, a cop car trying to go somewhere with it's lights on, and two trucks hauling below the speed limit up a couple big hills. Anyway, as I headed down the steep hill into the valley where my exit is, 3 deer decided to cross the road. I slowed down from 70, but was leary of slowing too much because of all the cars behind me doing 70. 2 of the deer managed to get across in front of me, and I made it through the gap before the 3rd got out of the break down lane. And my little Subaru Forester would not have fared as well as a truck! It's about a year since my first and last accident in which the guy in front of me slammed on his breaks to avoid a deer (just clipping it's leg), I managed to evade him, but as I was going around him, the guy behind me re-ended both of us!
Be careful out there. I hate this time of year...I spend too much time on the road when it's dark and the animals are everywhere!
I hate to hear this deer story. There isn't anything much harder than having to put an animal out of its misery up close like that. Although there are deer around here we are having more problems with wild hogs. I don't drive a truck and have been lucky not to have hit one, so far. I imagine the damage on my bumper would be about the same as a deer and your truck.
I have to agree with Tex that there are more skunks around. Recently I had to go up to Kansas for a family funeral. I have never seen so many dead ones on the road. Finally had to put the air system on the car to recirculate to get some "fresh" air.
I agree about the skunks here as well. We have had 4 skunks this year try and nest inside the barn, The latest last night and he now resides in the great skunk Heaven above.

The deer are terrible around here this time of year too. I see at least one every time I drive at dusk or later. This year it seems they are spending more time running down the road instead of just across it!
