Question regarding GF, Lactose & Soy free multi vitamins

Post by Rose »

As I was looking through all the ingredients of things I have been ingesting and after going to the potty 27 times with explosive d yesterday, I noticed that my GF multi vitamin has soy (ouch). I have been looking online for one that is GF, lactose & soy free, but have not been successful, can anyone point me in the right direction.

Also, any tips on car travel. As you can imagine I have been a prisoner in my home since I cannot travel (we live in Knoxville, Tennessee and our families live in Florida). My dh (what a gem) takes the kids to visit his parents (8 hours away), but I have seen my family in over a year (14 hours away). We thought about renting an RV, but they are so expensive. Any thoughts?

Also, I really want to thank you all for all of the support and information I have received. You all have given me so much hope. I felt so isolated and you have given me a new light. I have learned so much.

Thank you.

Hi There Rose!!
Type in Freeda's vitamins in your search bar.
She has vitamins for people that have multiple intolerances.
As far as traveling, can you take Lomotil or over the counter Immodium???? The Lomotil you can take safely up to 8 a day, 2 at a time. The only thing is if you stop them you will go back to the big time D, of course.
Lomotil was my saving grace until we got the MC figured out..

Hi Dee,

Thanks for the info on the vitamins, I will check that out.

As far as Lomotil, I have been on it and it only made the "d" worse. Then I found out from all of the knowledgable people here that Lomotil contains lactose (who would have thought) and thats why it didn't work for me. I am so glad that it worked for you.

The Imodium AD Caplets and Advanced Chewable Tablets are listed in my G/C/SF book from Cecelia's Marketplace. Check carefully because there have been some mistakes.

People with milk allergies. There should be little or no milk protein remaining in medicinal-grade pure lactose, but those with the worst, "life-threatening," allergies can hardly be expected to take the chance.

Hi Rose,
I don't know how old you are, but I used to take Nature Made Multi for Her 50+. They claim to be GF and yeast-free and don't appear to have any other allergens, but you'd have to read the label. I am not taking them at the moment because they have cornstarch in them and I'm still not sure about a corn intolerance.

Freeda vitamins are free of most allergens, as Dee mentioned, and I am presently taking their Geri vitamins.

Hi Rose and :welcome:

You are so lucky to have found this place...as we all are. I really am sorry about you having to look for us but you won`t find any better information to help you get your life back than you will here. I hope you are not suffering too much.

As a bonus, on this site you you will not only find the information you need but will receive so much support and love. I don`t use the word love lightly but you have found a truly loving family. I don`t post a lot but I don`t have many of the same issues as most everyone else, food intolerances for instance, but I have been helped here in so many ways.

I hope you will post often and keep us updated on how you are doing.
Love, Carol

Once again thank you all for steering me in the right direction. I do feel so blessed to find this site and do feel the love. I can't believe that I have received more information from here than I have from my Gastro. When he told me that he after my diagnosis of mc and that didn't think I had celiac and "if being GF works for you to continue with the GF diet." I don't know but I think I need a new Gastro.

Anyway, Gloria I am 47 so I think I am close enough to try those vitamins and am going to give them a try.

As far as Imodium Advanced, I have tried them (before I even went to my Gastro with my explosive problem) and they don't do anything for me either.

Your Gastro seems better than most because he said if GF works for you, continue the GF diet. A lot of GI's just roll their eyes and say diet has nothing to do with MC!

I agree with Joan. If he's willing to at least admit that it might work for you, he's ahead of the game. For that matter, he's ahead of the game if he tells you to keep doing what works for you. So many of them can't think beyond their textbooks and just have some common sense.

Hope you're feeling a little better today.

Love,
