Hello! Update on Camryn (with pic)

Post by Camryn'sMommy »

Hi everyone - hope you are all doing well. I thought I'd give you an update on Camryn. She is pretty stable right now. Her diapers aren't always solid, but they aren't liquid either. I think she is doing much better overall. I think we need to just watch her gluten intake closer and we'll be back to solid all the time. I started relying on her to say no to gluten, but that isn't fool-proof. She usually asks everyone if they give her food if it has gluten or not. If they say yes, she won't eat it. If they said no, then she says "so, it is gluten-free"? That works well, but the problem is when other people think something is gluten free...and its not.

I took Logan to the Dr. last week and he thinks that he has a much higher chance of getting LC since Camryn has it....we'll see. He has had D for the past few days, but he is also getting 4 teeth at one time (he is 18 months). Camryn turns 3 at the end of next month and I'm already planning to make gluten free cupcakes for her party.

In a separate note - I am going to start a website for parents that have gluten free toddlers. So far I bought the domain name - www.glutenfreetots.com , but I haven't done anything with it yet. I'd like to include food lists on the site. Anything to make it easier for parents to feed their gf kids. Eventually I'm going to sell gluten free food online, but for now it just links to my other website (we sell maternity and baby stuff). We had a physical store up until a few weeks ago, but we had to close due to the economic conditions....so now it is just a website. But anyhow...if anyone has any ideas on what I should include on the site, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks,
Laura

PS - I added a picture - I think she looks healthier than she has in a long time.

Hi Laura,

Glad to hear Camryn is doing so well. It's tough for all of us when other people insist something is GF, without really knowing, and I'm sure it's even harder on a little one and hard for you to watch her have to deal with that. (Heck, it's hard for my mom to watch me have to deal with it!) Both of your children look very healthy. My little brother is 22 mos. younger than I am, and we have many pics that look like that. I do hope that your son doesn't have to deal with LC, too, but at least you know where to look if he starts having problems. I don't know how difficult or advisable it would be to put him on the same diet as Camryn, but if he has the genes it might be a preventative measure to consider.

Congratulations on starting up a store. I think it will be very helpful. I'm by no means an entrepeneur, but it occurred to me that you might increase your customer base if you did GF and Casein Free foods. Many people are trying that diet as treatments for autism and adhd, so it might be something to think about. It seems like sites directed at children and parents tend to focus on GF/CF as opposed to just GF.

Hope Camryn continues to improve!

Love,

Courtney

Hi Laura,

Thanks for the update, and I'm glad that Camryn continues to do so well.

I agree with Courtney, that you should consider casein-free along with gluten-free. Those two intolerances seem to occur together, for many people. Also, considering that about half of us who are intolerant of gluten and casein, are also intolerant of soy, and in view of the adverse hormonal effects it appears to have on kids and adolescents, I would give soy-free some serious thought.

Good luck with your new venture.

Hi Laura,
Thank you for letting us know how Cameron is doing. She sounds like she's progressing very well. I think I'd give it a little more time with Logan. You probably know best.

I think your idea of starting a kid's GF store is great and I agree with the suggestions to add casien and soy to the lists. Good luck on your venture!

That pic's a keeper...how much longer will sis and little brother willingly hug without slugging eachother  Not to burst a bubble of Mom...I've got 2 step daughters age 9 and 11 and they fight and bicker and antagonize eachother almost non-stop these days!

So glad Camryn is doing better and adjusting to understanding how to ask about the food she eats. What a skill for such a young one to have. It will serve her well in life.

For your website, what about a blog...a day in the life of a gluten intolerant child? The good the bad and the ugly. Bet that would help so many parents to know they aren't alone.
