Hi everyone - Update on Camryn and Me
Hello everyone! My baby girl turns 3 tomorrow! We're going to a gluten free bakery today to get her a bunch of goodies. It is 1hr 15min away from me...I hope it is worth it. I'm getting her a cake and then I'm going to decorate it as a space shuttle...we'll see how that goes. She loves the movie Space Buddies with the talking dogs. She has been doing pretty well lately. We found out that Burger King fries are NOT gluten free...as they previous said they were. She was getting sick every time she ate them....at least we know now.
I had an endoscopy/colonoscopy yesterday b/c my stomach has been bothering me. I have a hiatal hernia, gastritis, internal hems and a j-shaped stomach. I'm getting an upper GI next Friday because of the J-Shaped stomach. I'm not exactly sure what they are looking for. I also had biopsies taken to rule out Celiac, Giardia and (drum roll....) microscopic colitis! We'll see if it runs in the family or not. My blood work has come back negative for Celiac, but we'll see what the biopsy says. The Dr. put me on Aciphex...has anyone taken that?
Hope all is well with everyone!

Good work in tracking down the contaminated French fries. I don't trust any restaurant French fries, because virtually all of them fry things such as breaded onion rings, in the same oil that they use for the French fries, which guarantees cross-contamination, of course. McDonald's doesn't do that, but they lost a court case, and had to withdraw their gluten-free claims, because they use a seasoning compound that includes a product that contains gluten. Their claim was that the gluten component is removed before they receive it, but they were unable to prove their case. Why put it in there in the first place, if they want to provide a GF product?
Good for you, for having your doctors check for MC. The sooner you can discover and treat a condition such as that, (if you have it), the fewer health issues you are likely to develop, in the long run. They may be looking for H. pylori, with the upper endoscopy, since something is obviously causing the gastritis. The Aciphex was almost certainly prescribed to help to minimize the gastritis symptoms. Some of the proton pump inhibitors have been documented to cause MC, but so far, MC has not been linked to Aciphex, to the best of my knowledge.
I notice that you have grapes listed as an intolerance for Camryn. Grapes are one of the few foods, (other than gluten), that still give me serious D, whenever I try them. I never have figured out why, so I don't believe that I'll try them anymore, in the future.
Actually, J-shaped stomachs are nor particularly uncommon, and most people who have that type of stomach shape, don't experience any symptoms, nor is there any evidence to indicate that this type of stomach has any significant effect on digestion.
That's a long drive, but I'm sure the GF cake, and the other goodies, will mean more to Camryn, than you can imagine. We'll have to have a birthday celebration here, too, tomorrow.
Thanks for the great update, and I hope your test results turn out to be even better than you are hoping.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Happy Birthday to Camryn! I can't believe she's turning 3. I hope she enjoys the GF bakery items.
When you first posted, you mentioned that she had low weight. Has that been reversed now that she's gluten free?
It's always nice to get an update.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
