Barbara,
It sounds like y'all do it right, up there in Noo Yawk.
On Saturday, a week ago, the little town where I went to school, tried to pass a school bond issue for several million dollars, to build a new track, and some related athletic facilities. That might not sound like a lot of money, to someone in a huge school district, or someone living in a school district that gets most of it's tax money from oil or gas production, but in this tumble-down, one-horse town, it's big bucks. The facilities they already have, are a hell of a lot better than they were when I went to school, and back then, the town was booming, but I suppose that's irrelevant to people trying to pass school bond issues.

Now, I certainly have nothing against spending money to improve education, when it's needed, but in the current economy, that project would have jumped our taxes waaaaay up in this little community, so it was soundly defeated, of course. I guess we're kinda dimwitted, though, 'cause it never occurred to us to try to vote anybody out of office.
I have a hunch that we'll all have enough taxes to satisfy us, anyway, when the government decides to start trying to collect the money it's going to need to pay for all the bailout money that it's been throwing around.
Luve,
Galahad
